Brick kiln owners asked to adhere to environmental norms

District Development Commissioner Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar today convened a meeting with brick kiln owners operating in the district and impressed upon them to strictly adhere to environmental norms.General Manager DIC,   ADC Pulwama, ADC Awantipora, ADC Tral, ACR Pulwama, Tehsildars, officers from Geology & Mining Department, Irrigation & Flood, Pollution Control, Municipality and other officers from concerned quarters were present in the meeting. He asked to run this industry on the lines as envisaged in Sustainable Development Goals as enshrined in J&K Industrial Policy guidelines 2016 which includes application of latest pollution controlling and monitoring devices, use of efficient fuel with high calorific values and low sulphur content, risk allowances, linking of labourers with health insurance schemes and a desirable environmental cess to be imposed on red and orange category industries.He emphasized that no fresh licenses or registrations shall be issued to set up any new brick kiln in the district. He also reiterated that any unauthorized existing brick kiln unit shall be dismantled and strict action under rules  shall be initiated against the violators.
