Dr. Manuj Wadhwa who is a Director & Head, Deptt Of Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement at Max Super Specialty Hospitals, Mohali has received recognition in 2014 edition of Limca Book of Records that was released on March 6. He has got recognition for having performed 331 the highest number of joint replacement surgeries in March 2013 (31 days). It was the 2014 special 25th Anniversary issue of the book .A specialist in Adult Joint Reconstruction Knee, Hip, Elbow and Shoulder Joints, Computer Assisted and CT based surgery in Arthroplasty, Dr. Wadhwa has undergone the prestigious Ranawat Adult Joint Reconstruction Fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, USA with Dr CS Ranawat, the surgeon of former PM, Mr. AB Vajpayee. He has also got super-speciality training in joint replacement at USA, UK, Australia, Singapore, Paris, Germany and S Korea, AIIMS Delhi, Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai and several other leading hospitals in India and abroad. An M.CH from University of Dundee, UK, Dr Wadhwa has operated upon complex joint replacement cases on 17-yr and as well as octogenarians.
Talking about his feat, Dr. Wadhwa recalled that how he was working abroad when his parents asked him to serve the ailing population in India as they were ‘our people first’. For me, the most rewarding moments were when patients would realize that the pain in his joints has now a thing of the past and they could go back to lead a healthy life, he asserted.He said that latest technologies & advancement in Knee Replacement Surgery was now highly accurate and time saving with a normal procedure could be completed within 15-20 minutes. Now we used the keyhole technique for conducting surgeries which resulted in highly reduced pain, quicker recovery and provides tremendous amount of flexibility to the knee joint of the patient. Pioneering the concept of CT-based surgeries and navigation in Joint Replacements, Dr Wadhwa is the first to start Rotating Platform and High Flexion Total Knee Replacement in North India. Having performed over 15000 joint replacements in his career spanning 12 years, Dr Wadhwa broke new grounds in the field of arthroplasty and made use of the latest technology in replacement of hip, knee, shoulder and elbow joints in both primary, revision and minimally-invasive computer assisted joint replacements. He has also launched concept of 30 year life Joint Replacement and done first case of latest designs Attune and Verilast in country recently.
Dr Wadhwa has been felicitated by former President of India, Pratibha Patil for handling complex knee and hip replacement surgery of euthanasia petitioner Seema Sood in July 2008. He has also been awarded the prestigious ‘Rashtriya Rattan Award’ and the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award’. He is also the recipient of ‘Man of the Year’ award by the American Biographical Institute, USA. Dr Manuj was recently conferred the ‘Best Doctor of the Region’ award by former Union Railway Minister, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal.
