Srinagar , 26 Jan 2018

Kashmir Valley on Friday observed a complete shutdown on the eve of the Republic Day of India with authorities placing stringent security measures to prevent any protest or militant attack in the region.Reports reaching news agency GNS said the roads in the summer capital and other major places wore a deserted look. All shops, commercial establishments and petrol pumps remained closed while public and private transport was also off the roads. The call for shutdown was given by the joint resistance camp (JRL) and was also supported by militant outfits including Hizbul Mujhadeen and Lashkar-e-Toiba.This year the main Republic Day function was held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium instead of the regular venue at Bakshi Stadium. The area around the cricket stadium was sealed on Wednesday for full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade.Eyewitnesses told GNS that all the roads leading to Stadium, the venue for Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar, were sealed by security men till the function was over. Officials said the Republic Day functions across the valley passed off peacefully.Besides Srinagar city, complete shutdown was also observed in all the districts parts of Kashmir where R-Day functions were organized amid tight security.Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been snapped since last night in Kashmir as a precautionary measure on the occasion of the Republic Day.
