25th GST Council Meeting was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today. Union Finance MinisterArun Jaitley presided over the meeting.Speaking during the meeting, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur urged the Centre that changes in GST rules and rate structure may be made either on quarterly or six monthly basis depending upon the situation. He said that changes may be notified or made effective from the 1st of the month.
He said that problems of stakeholders should be attended on priority and added that MIS has not been made available on GST Portal to the implementing departments. Therefore, detailed analysis of revenue receipts and taxpayers returns could not be carried out.The Chief Minister said that appropriate business intelligence tools should be used in IT Solution to enable the system to detect mismatches and tax evasion. He said that the module related to enforcement should be rolled out at the earliest to compliment effective implementation of e-way bill. He requested for early notification of powers relating to full cross empowerment.He assured that best efforts would be made to implement GST in smooth and effective manner in the state.Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Smt. Manisha Nanda, Principal Secretary, Excise and Taxation Shri Jagdish Chander Sharma, Commissioner, Excise and Taxation Shri R Selvam were also present in the meeting.
