District administration declared Aarshi Kalas as ‘Ambassador for girl Child’ for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme aimed at addressing the gender imbalance and discrimination against the girl child, here today.While congratulating Aarshi, Deputy Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar expressed hope that she would again make Udhampur and the State proud by winning the television singing reality show Rising Star Juniors to be held in Mumbai later this month.He further said that Aarshi’s endeavours will act as a great motivator for other girls to strive for success  in life.While indicating the critical sex ratio of the district, Deputy Commissioner  said that umbrella of initiatives aimed to stem the declining trend of child sex ratio by means of advocacy efforts and community mobilization besides bring attitudinal change among the citizens regarding womanhood and to ensure equal opportunities for female and their survival with dignity were rolled out under the BBBP.Listing the upcoming events to be held under BBBP, DC informed that district administration is going to organize Dangal, exclusively for girls on 24 January 2018.

He further added that a survey will be conducted for head count of female child among 0 - 5 years age group to get firsthand account of child sex ratio in the district during upcoming Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaignin the district, and also called for sensitizing students in schools, colleges and general public regarding BBBP programme.Among others Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Subash Dogra, District Information Officer, Angrej Singh, AD Planning, Darshan Kumar, Secretary District Red Cross Society, Dr. V.P Sharma besides other officers/Officials and eminent citizens were present on the occasion.
