Priya Sethi dedicates Lohri celebration to the Girl Child

Minister of State for Education, Tourism and Culture, Priya Sethi today attended string of Lohri celebrations and dedicated the festival to the girl child.She said this Lohri shall be celebrated to encourage and celebrate the girl child with festivity adding that as a civilized society, it is our social and moral responsibility to take such initiative to change the social perception. She appealed to the people to collectively encourage Lohri for Girl Child, to bring an attitudinal change in society.Priya exhorted upon the need to spread a strong message to save and nurture daughters and further stressed on creating awareness among the masses regarding several issues such as gender ratio, dowry, female foeticide and alike. She said it is necessary to educate people about the consequences of such social evils.

Earlier to celebrate the festival, impressive functions were organised at Rani Park and Ghumat area where the bonfire was lit and people tossed sesame seeds, gur, sugar-candy and rewaries on the bonfire, sing and dance on the beats of dhol. The Minister also performed the traditional rituals and celebrated the festival among the locals of these areas. Audience at different places also supported the idea of celebrating Lohri for the girl child.Senior Politician, Yudhvir Sethi besides prominent citizens from all walks of life also joined in celebrations along with members of Mohalla Sudhar Welfare Committee, Rani Park.Earlier, the Minister also attended the Lohri Celebration function organised by Sanatan Dharam Sabha at Geeta Bhawan , Parade.
