Minister for Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today inaugurated newly-constructed Research Development Centre cum Secondary Standard Laboratory of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) here at SDA Colony, Bemina. The building constructed by J&K Housing Board at an expenditure of Rs 1.75 crore, was completed within a short period of eight months only.The Minister appreciated the executing agency for getting the job done in such a short period and said, “It is really a commendable work.” The Minister said although he was optimistic that the construction would be completed within a year, however, with building ready to serve much before, is really pleasing news. Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said he is personally very keen to strengthen the Legal Metrology Department as he believes the step will eventually strengthen the consumer rights. He said it is important to lace the department like LMD with a good infrastructure and latest technologies so that it could serve people in a better manner.
"I personally believe that one should only expect people to deliver to their optimum capacities after they are provided with good working conditions and with required equipment to do the job," the Minister said. He said LMD is an important component of his Ministry and he would take every possible step to strengthen it. He assured the staff present that he would ensure that the employees of the department are provided with a good working environment and proper infrastructure so that they can deliver to best of their capacities.In return, the Minister demanded that the employees of LMD should also understand their duties. He said any lackluster attitude in delivering their duties on their part would directly affect the consumers of the State, which Government would never accept.Secretary FCS&CA M D Khan, Controller LMD R K Kotch, Joint Controller LMD Amar Singh, Deputy General Managers Housing Board Ajaz Ahmad, Sajad Ahmad and other concerned were present on the occasion.
