Heritage School Senior Wing celebrated its XIII Annual Sports Day “Fine Fettle” with exuberance here today.Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture and Tourism, Priya Sethi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.ADG, NCC, Directorate Jammu, J&K, Major General Nilendra Kumar was the Guest of Honour.Legislators, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Davinder Kumar Manyal and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Accountant General J&K, Shourjo Chatterjee, Chief Electoral Officer Shaleen Kabra, besides National Film Award Winning Actor Zaira Wasim and other prominent citizens were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized on students to excel in sports and other extra curriculum activities at par with academics as overall development of a student is fundamental to character building leading them to a successful future.“Schools must focus on character-building and all-round education not as an alternative to academics curriculum but as an essential part of student’s life and Heritage school is playing a pivotal role for their students in this regard’, she maintained.She said that parents also had a key part to play by encouraging their wards towards other activities including sports as well and not only stuck them to books in order to lay down more future prospects for them.
The Minister said that the Government is taking several revolutionary measures included imparting vocational training, building better infrastructure for educational, sports and cultural activities, launching career guidance programmes and scholarship schemes to embrace the overall development of the younger generation.Priya applauded the students for their remarkable performance and appreciated the school administration for their efforts in putting up such a grand show. She said that the way students displayed their talent on the field gave a feel of Christmas spirit of bonhomie and goodwill and it looked like the school has wore a festive look adorned with colorful ecstasy.The Sports Oath was administered by the School Sports Captain Master Shubam Soni. It was entailed by an array of thrilling races in which girls & boys from classes VI – XI participated with great gusto and spirit. The highlight of the races was the relay race which had students teachers cheering for their own respective houses and which was eventually won by Boys of Dignity House and Girls of Tradition House .The Minster presented School Blazers to 11 students of class X for setting high standards of academic excellence. Prithpal Singh and Riya Bhatti alumni of the school were awarded with Silver Medallion for having secured highest marks in CBSE Class 12 Board Exams .The Best House Trophy for Sports was awarded to Dignity House for the session 2017-18.
Ceremony Certificates and commendations were awarded in the Annual Prize Distribution to students who achieved excellence. In the first category of awards, 35 students who had achieved C.G.P.A 10 in C.B.S.E Class X Board Exams were given a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each by Nirmal Gupta who is the senior most member of the Heritage family. 8 students from class IX who had secured A1 in at least four main subjects for three consecutive years were decorated with ‘Golden Crest’ by Major General Nilendra Kumar. He also felicitated the winners of various races and gave away the Best March Past Trophy to students of Culture House.Earlier, the programme was commenced with the welcome speech by the school head boy Master Kartik Tripathi, followed by a well synchronized march past by the four Houses of the school & Scouts and Guides contingent also comprising of National Level players of the school and the army band of 19 Grenadiers’ Infantry Division of the Indian Army. After the flag hoisting, the meet was declared open by the Minister and a torch was lit to commemorate the events.The distinguished guests were presented with school mementoes by the Chairperson Sunita Gupta. Principal, Jagdish Singh Dhami presented a vote of thanks. The curtain call for the day arrived with rendition of the National Anthem.
