On second day of his two day visit to Ladakh, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, inaugurated several development projects including the ‘underground cabling in Leh market,’ that is part of the beautification of Leh bazaar under UIDSSMT.The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.53 crore which has been done by the executing agency EM &RE Division.Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, EC (Works), EC (A&SH), EC (Tourism), DC Avny Lavasa, Councilor Upper Leh, SP Leh, ASP Leh, and engineers of the PDD department were present on the occasion.

Later, Dr. Singh inaugurated a motorable bridge over Indus at Stakna connecting Chushot belt with National Highway-II, a 60 metre long steel bridge executed under Special Task Force at a cost of Rs 3.17 crore and the 17 Kilometre Choglamsar-Hemis road which was constructed under Special Task Force at a cost of Rs 19 crore.Dr. Nirmal Singh said that the present Govt both at Centre and State are committed towards development of Ladakh region and assured that all their genuine demands would be addressed on priority. He appreciated the people of Ladakh for their true spirit of nationalism that has been time and again exhibited by Ladakhis.Dr. Singh assured for many more such projects for Ladakh in near future.Appreciating the people of Ladakh for setting a unique example of communal harmony and brotherhood in the region, the Dy. CM said that such congenial atmosphere is the prerequisite for speedy development and added that Ladakhis will witness more development and prosperity in future.CEC, LAHDC, Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Executive Councillor Minority Affairs, Mumtaz Hussain, Councilor Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Dy. Commissioner, Leh Avny Lavasa were also present during various inaugurations.Dr Singh also inspected the newly established Secondary Segregation Centre of Solid Wastes at Solar Colony, Leh.DC Leh, giving a detail briefing to the Deputy CM about the concept of this project, said that it is an attempt to bring solution to growing problem of waste management in Ladakh. She further said that on the basis of success of this project, similar centres would be opened in other villages of the district to find possibilities to re-use the waste generated and also to supply it for recycle to organisations like PAGIR.Dr. Singh, on this occasion, said that it is an innovative project to segregate waste material involving local people’s support and this project is going to help keeping Ladakh neat and clean. He sought a project proposal to Govt for strengthening of the Segregation centre.

Deputy Chief Minister also participated in the grand celebration of Losar, the New Year celebration of Ladakh region at Chowkhang Vihara. The ceremony started with hoisting of the Prayer flag at the Vihara and auspicious rituals.Addressing huge gathering of people, Dr. Singh congratulated the entire people of Ladakh on the eve of Losar and wished for a peaceful, harmonious, and prosperous new year.Talking about the memorandum presented by LBA President for assistance for widening and re-construction project of present Vihara, and Bhoti teachers and creation of more Bhoti teaching posts, Dr. Singh assured to take them up with the Cultural Ministry and concerned ministries. He also gave assurance to take up the issue about preservation of Himalayan Amchi medical system with the concerned ministry. He also assured to take up issues of Ladakh with PM Narender Modi.Dr. Singh appreciated the efforts of the Council headed by CEC Dr. Dawa in working hard towards fulfilling the developmental works for the betterment of the society. He also appreciated the efforts of the people of land for preserving the ages old rich and vibrant culture and tradition of the land. He praised the role of LBA in preserving the tradition since its inception especially in maintaining religious harmony in this part of the country.CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, LBA President Tsewang Thinles also congratulated the general public on the eve of Losar.Dy CM was presented with a statue of Lord Buddha as a memento by LBA and on the occasion of Losar, DyCM presented a cheque of Rs. 11,000/- to LBA. Traditional and auspicious presentations enthralled the entire gathering.Dr. Singh also visited Stakna Monastery and met the newly enthroned Stakna Rinpochey. The monks of this monastery also demanded funds for expansion of parking ground.
