Army on Thursday paid befitting tributes to two of its comrades who were killed during two separate operations in North Kashmir’s Kupwara districts.In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the slain soldiers. In a show of solidarity, officials and representatives from the State Government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the slain soldiers.Rifleman Jitender Kumar (23) sustained bullet injuries during a fierce operation in Zarhama Kupwara while trying to intercept a group of LeT militants. Kumar had joined Army in 2014 and hailed from Village Shaulana, Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his parents, one brother and one sister.Sepoy Mandeep Singh was killed in a counter infiltration operation along Line of Control in Keran Sector of Kupwara district. One militant attempting to infiltrate was also killed in the operation. Singh, 32 hailed from village Chahal Khurd in Gurdaspur, Punjab and had joined Army in 2004. He is survived by his wife and a son.“The mortal remains of both the soldiers were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours,” reads an army handout.(CNS)
