Government Medical College, Jammu, today hosted a mega cultural bonanza to welcome the fresher  batch of MBBS students here at the College Auditorium.The event was organized by the Cultural Committee of the GMC headed by Prof. K.K. Koul, Head of Department Pathology Department.Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat was chief guest and Minister of State for Health & Medical Education, Asiea Naqash was guest of honor.Principal, GMC, Dr. Sunanda Raina, President, Medical Teachers Association, Dr. Sunil Kotwal, Mission Director, NHM, Dr. Mohan Singh,   faculty members, Medical Superintendents of Associated Hospitals, PG students, UG students and other functionaries were present on the occasion.The students and faculty members presented a scintalating  cultural bonanza and enthralled the jam packed auditorium. The main attraction of the event was the mesmerizing performance of Dr. K.K.Koul and Dr. Ratnakar Sharma, who won repated cheers from audience. Dr. Koul presented some selected dialogues of famous late actor Raj Kumar and Dr. Ratnakar presented the Dogri Programme of Radio Kashmir (Yuvavani Service) in a typical style which used to be aired around three decades back.

Speaking on the occasion, Bali Bhagat said that co-curricular activities are equaly important for the overall development of the students. He said music is an important part of life for it refreshes the mind and body of human beings.“In this era of stress, such cultural and entertaining events are must and should be held on regular basis” he said and appreciated the talent of the students and faculty members. He also wished success to the fresher and outgoing students.He called upon the medicos to maintain high traditions of the premier  institution which has produced many legendary professionals. He advised them to focus on the ethical goal  of serving the mankind with   missionary spirit - expected by the society from them. He said “You people are lucky enough for God has given you an opportunity to serve the mankind.  You must contribute hundred percent to uphold the dignity  of this noble profession”.On the occasion, the Minister also distributed prizes among the best performers.
