Centre’s interlocutor arrives in Kashmir for talks

Government of India’s interlocutor, Dineshwar Sharma, today arrived in Kashmir to begin ‘sustained dialogue’ announced by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir.Sharma, who is also former IB Director, arrived at Hariniwas Palace on the banks of Dal Lake at around 12:30 pm. He has been given ‘Z’ security cover as he enjoys rank of Union Cabinet Secretary rank. Apart from print and electronic media reporters and camerapersons and police personnel, no one else had camped outside the Hari Niwas Palace.Reports suggest 13 delegations called on Sharma today but all of them were non-political, mainly consisting of sports bodies and Gujjar Bakarwal associations. The resistance leadership has already announced a boycott of the Centre’s interlocutor while opposition National Conference president Farooq Abdullah had said he has no expectations from Sharma’s visit.The Valley’s key business and industry bodies, civil society organization and religious groups have also announced boycott of the new interlocutor. Late evening reports here said that some mainstream party leaders would call on Sharam tomorrow. There was no media interaction by Sharma today. He is expected to stay in Valley for three days beginning from today. (GNS)
