Former deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned the brutal attack on former Gurdaspur legislator Gurbachan Singh Babbehali’s son Amarjot at Gurdaspur today and said political vendetta as well as assassinations of political leaders and religious heads had reached its zenith under Congress rule.In a statement here, the SAD president said attacks on Akali leaders and their kith and kin were going on unabated with the former legislator’s son Amarjot and two others being stabbed at Babbehali village. A short while back SGPC member Dyal Singh Kolianwali’s son Parminder was attacked in a similar manner by Congress workers. The SAD president said Congress leaders, particularly Local Government minister Navjot Sidhu, were responsible for provoking Congress leaders to attack Akalis. “During the campaign for the Gurdaspur by poll Mr Navjot Sidhu delivered an inflammatory speech against Mr Gurbachan Babbehali in front ofn his house in Babbehali village which has set the tone for the attack on Amarjot.

He said Parminder was threatened with dire consequences while manning a booth during the election and now a murderous attack had been unleashed against him”. He said Navjot Sidhu had recently delivered inflammatory speeches at Majithia also. Action should be taken to put an end to such provocation”, he added.Mr Badal also asked the Congress government to take emergent steps to check rampant killing of heads of religious organizations in Punjab, saying such incidents could create communal tension and lead to turmoil. He said the recent targeting of RSS leader Ravinder Gosain in Ludhiana and Hindu Sangharsh Samiti leader Vipin Sharma in Amritsar yesterday had created a fear psychosis in the minds of the people who felt a deliberate attempt was being made to stoke communal passions.
