Huge fire severely damages historic hotel in Myanmar

A colonial-era luxury wooden hotel in Myanmar's Yangon city suffered severe damage in a massive fire that broke out on Thursday.The fire started around 3 a.m., in the Kandawgyi Palace Hotel and quickly engulfed the wooden building constructed mainly from teak, reports Efe news.Firefighters extinguished the flames by 7 a.m., but the blaze damaged almost the entire structure.A Chinese tourist and a firefighter were reportedly injured in the fire.The cause of the fire was not immediately known.Kandawgyi Palace Hotel is five-star lake-front hotel originally built by the British as an exclusive rowing club in 1934. It attracts visitors with its traditional Myanmar architecture featuring the lavish use of teak.
