World Space Week-2017 concludes in Srinagar

A week-long World Space Week-2017 celebrations organized by the State Remote Sensing Centre (SRSC), Department of Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing (DEE&RS) in collaboration with the Green Valley Education Institute, Ellahi-Bagh, Srinagar concluded here today.On the concluding day, an awareness-cum-painting competition was organized by the Department in coordination with the Regional Remote Sensing Centre- North, Indian Space Research Organization, Department of Space, Government of India in which students from various schools participated.The World Space Week celebrations is aimed at highlighting the benefits of the Indian Space programme as well as spreading awareness of space technology that would ignite the young minds. The Week is celebrated world over since 1999 when the United Nations General Assembly declared it to be celebrated to highlight the science and technology particularly space exploration missions in the World.The valedictory function was presided over by the Director Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, O.P. Sharma and other concerned were present on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion the Director highlighted the need for innovations while maintaining the natural balance.  He said children should develop scientific temper from their early age. Events like World Space Week provide an excellent opportunity to adopt the best practices from ISRO, he said and appreciated the ISRO for its public outreach programme.Principal (GVEI), Prof. Razia Sultana stressed on conducting more and more such programmes related to space and environment in order to ingress sensitization towards emerging technology and environment preservation among student community.Other speakers also highlighted various space missions of the country and the strides made in space technology.

Later, appreciation certificates were awarded to the students who participated in the painting competition.
