Governor Acharya Devvrat participated in the Cleanliness Campaign organized by Dainik Jagran newspaper at Lakkar Bazar, here today.He himself took a broom and cleaned certain parts of Lakkar Bazar along with Mayor,Smt. Kusum Sadret, Deputy Mayor Shri Rakesh Sharma, Commissioner Shri G.C. Nagi, Advisor to the Governor Shri Shashikant Sharma, officials of the Corporation and Pollution Control Board, jounalists and local people.On this occasion, the Governor said that it was essential to preserve the beauty of the hill State which was possible with the involvement of all sections of the society. He said that lakhs of tourists visit the state capital every year and in order to promote tourism all tourist spots in Shimla should be kept clean. He urged the people to make cleanliness drive a mass movement.The governor also distributed dustbins to the shopkeepers provided by Pollution Control Board.He said that tourists visiting the Capital area should have an image of a clean city, especially the parks and on the connecting routes there should be no dirt, for which we should not rely solely on MC and others engaged in cleanliness work. He added that it was the social obligation of every citizen us to clean up areas around them. He appealed to the social organizations to motivate people towards cleanliness by organizing such campaigns from time to time.While appreciating the efforts of the newspaper in Cleanliness campaign, the Governor said that it would inspire others too. He said that there were many such parks in the city, which had been neglected due to lack of system where such campaigns should be run so that they could be developed as attractive spot for tourists.Later, the Governor visited the Dainik Jagran newspaper office and discussed on drug addiction and other social issues with journalists.Editor of Dainik Jagran Smt. Rachna Gupta apprised the Governor about the activities on social issues being run by the newspaper from time to time.
