Speaker Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today called for providing better opportunities to specially-abled persons to enable them to achieve their aims and goals.He was speaking after handing over modified Scooties to two specially abled persons here today. The tri-wheel bikes were provided by the Speaker to the beneficiaries out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).Further emphasizing on public contribution, Speaker said that every individual must volunteer himself in the noble service. He said proper guidance, encouragement and better opportunities will help them to become self-dependent. “To develop a sense of security among them, the society should assist their special needs”, the Speaker asserted.Kavinder assured that every possible measure will be taken for immediate redress of the grievances of special persons. The Speaker called upon the volunteers, social workers, civil society and NGOs of the state to come forward and help them to live with honor and dignity.The Speaker stressed on the need of raising massive awareness among the people about the welfare schemes and programmes of the Government, especially for the specially-abled persons.
Kavinder asked the concerned officials to prepare a list of physically challenged persons and draft a report on the cost for their treatment and providing different kinds of aid appliances. He said that every possible help will be provided to them through various schemes. Pertinently recently the Speaker had provided 40 wheelchairs to the persons with physical disabilities out of his salary.The residents of the area hailed the noble gesture of the Speaker for helping the needy.Later, the Speaker convened a public grievance redress camp at Nanak Nagar and listened to the problems and demands projected by the locals.Responding to the issues, the Speaker assured the locals that all their genuine demands would be looked into on priority. He directed the concerned officials to take all necessary measures to address their issues at the earliest.Speaker announced that upgrading work of lanes in Sector 14 will commence in a week’s time while new power transformer for the area has already being sanctioned.
