MCA pass-out dalit student, Monica had to pay with her life, thanks to the negligence of the Jandiala Municipal Council and PSPCL authorities. Even her father, a National Bravery award winner, couldn’t save her. A resident of Jandiala Guru area in Amritsar, Monica had on September 9 gone to the rooftop to hang clothes for drying up when she came into contact with an 11000 watt high-tension electricity wire passing over her house. Monica was so severely burnt in the accident that the doctors had to cut off her limbs to save her, but in vain.Seeking justice for Monica and her family, the Punjab BJP today knocked on the doors of the National SC Commission and demanded strict action against the erring officials.Punjab BJP secretary Vineet Joshi and state party SC Morcha vice-president Balwinder Singh met the regional Director of the Commission and sought prompt action into the matter.Talking to mediapersons outside the Commission office, Vineet Joshi said, “Bravery award winner Govind Singh had to lose his daughter just because of the carelessness of Punjab State Power Corporation officials.

It is appalling to see that Govind, who earned a national award for his service to the nation, today is running from pillar to post seeking justice for his deceased daughter”.Meanwhile, Monica’s father Govind Singh, mother Rajwant Kaur and brother Karan Johan, who too were present at the SC Commission’s office, said that they were residing in a house which had its plan approved by the Municipal Council; still an 11,000 watt high-tension wire was passing over the rooftop. “The locals had complained to the concerned electricity officials a number of times, but all the pleas fell on deaf ears. In Monica’s case, the police took action under 174 of the IPC and then closed the matter. The Jandiala Municipal Council and the Executive Engineer of the PSPCL are directly responsible for Monica’s death”, they said.  “Monica had completed her MCA with a splendid 82 percentile and wanted to follow her father’s footsteps and serve the nation”, said her mother.Meanwhile, National SC Commission’s Regional Director, Rajkumar Verka has assured Monica’s family of a high-level probe into the matter and said that the erring officials won’t go scot-free.
