The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today kick started sanitation campaign “Swachhta Hi Sewa" from the banks of river Tawi organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in collaboration with district administration to mark the 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission on2nd October.Legislator, Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr MK Bhandari, Commissioner JMC, M Raju, Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan besides officers of JMC, police and civil administration, members of civil society, civil defense, representatives of Tawi Andolan students and a large number of volunteers were also present on the occasion.The aim of the campaign is to reinforce the concept of 'sanitation is everyone's business', besides re-energizing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by intensifying focus on cleanliness through mass participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister stressed upon involving all stakeholders in this 18-day campaign that will culminate on Gandhi Jayanti.The Deputy Chief Minister said that celebrating Swachhta Abhiyan is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and asked people to actively participate in the drive and help improve sanitation in their surroundings. To reach out to the poor and marginalized and provide them with sustainable sanitation services would be the hallmark of this campaign, the Dy CM asserted.He urged people to offer Shramdaan for toilet construction, cleaning of public places, bus stands, school and colleges in both rural and urban areas.The Deputy CM informed that the government has created a special portal and web page on MyGov.in to facilitate people to upload pre and post intervention photos of their shramdaan and other interventions.The Deputy CM also administered pledge to the participants on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
