Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today directed the engineers to complete the requisite formalities for establishing new Water Supply Schemes in Kandi areas of Kathua, Samba and Akhnoor to augment water supply.The Minister issued these instructions during a meeting to review the action taken by the department on the demands projected by the local populace of these areas.
Chief Engineer, PHE A K Gandotra, Chief Engineer, I&FC P N Bali and other engineers of the department were present in the meeting.The Minister also enquired about the status of Water Supply Scheme, Sangwali in Samba and directed the engineers to ascertain the possibility of establishing new WSS in the village so that clean drinking water can be provided to the villagers regularly.“Any defect in the PHE stations should be conveyed to the senior authorities immediately so that action can be taken to restore water supply,” he said, adding that machinery should be kept on standby to deal with any exigency.
In the meeting, the Minister also asked about the status of water supply in Budhi, Nagrota, Sounthal, Pandori, Kharote, Chak Bhagocha, Govt School Krishna Colony, Hiranagar, Ghagwal, Muthi Khurd, Rajpura, Dinga Amb in Kathua and Rehan, Kagrote, Dhar Zankahar, Kudera, Batera, Mohra Kachri and Bani Tipri in Bani and Basholi.The Minister asked for a report of damaged pipes due to road construction works so that the matter can be taken up with the concerned for immediate repair of pipes.While reviewing the pace of flood protection works, the Minister directed the engineers to put crates at the vulnerable spots in Kandi Mandal, Mela, Khadeter, Rajpura, Kootah, Ghagwal Nallah and Kheri. The engineers should remain vigilant to deal with any untoward situation arising out of incessant rains during monsoon season directed the Minister.Later, the Minister directed the engineers to take steps for augmenting water supply to inaccessible areas of the district and work swiftly for laying water pipes in the required areas so that people get adequate drinking water.
