Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today visited the District Hospital, Baramulla and took stock of the medicare and other allied facilities available for the patients.Accompanied by Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Chief Medical Officer, Baramulla, Dr Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo and Medical Superintendent, Dr Sayeed Masood, the Minister went around various wards and units including, Blood Bank, Laboratory, Operation Theatre, Oxygen Plant and received the detailed appraisal of the facilities. The Minister also interacted with the patients, attendants and enquired about the facilities available in the hospital.After the inspection of the hospital, the Minister convened a meeting of doctors and paramedics and received detailed account of the activities in the hospital vis-à-vis availability of manpower, medicines, oxygen, diagnostic gadgets, sanitation, flow of patients and other essential items relating to the patient care. He also enquired about the difficulties of the doctors and paramedics.

Lauding the efforts of the doctors and paramedics, especially the Medical Superintendent for ensuring efficient functioning and management of the hospital, the Minister said that people have lot of expectations from them and it is mandatory on the part of every individual to give their best for the satisfaction of the patients. He said Government’s duty is to arrange adequate funds and facilities in the hospitals, but it is doctors and para-medics, which have to deliver on ground and execute things in right perspective in the interest of patient care. He called upon them to continue to make best efforts to serve the patients with missionary zeal, which is the mandate of this noble profession.Describing the District Hospital as a Model healthcare institution in the State, the Minister said that the Government will take all possible steps to further augment it with other specializations and modern gadgets as per the requirement and to cater the rush of patients. He called upon the Director Health Services and CMO to personally monitor the supply position of medicines and other essential articles to meet the emergencies. He also directed the CMO to conduct frequent field visits to address the needs of the peripheral institutions, adding that healthcare is the paramount importance of the Government and every effort must be made to reach out to the needy, especially in the rural and far-flung areas. He also directed for hundred percent coverage of National Immunization Programme (Pulse Polio) in every corner.

In a power point presentation, the Minister was informed that in an average around 3000 patents are attended in the OPD daily. During the year 2016-17 as many as 4.99 lakh patients in OPD and 25,179 indoor patients were treated. Similarly, 4869 major and 8086 minor operations were performed during the same period. It was further revealed that 3981 deliveries, including 2000 normal and 1981 cesareans were performed in the hospital, besides conducted 45,2115 blood tests, 32992 urine tests, 1953 sputum tests, 34814 X-rays, 21133 USGs, 3771 CT Scans and 17770 ECGs during the previous year.Later, the Minister also inspected ANMT School, Baramulla and enquired about the academic and other activities. He interacted with the students and faculty.Meanwhile, the Minister also inspected the execution work of newly sanctioned Medical College, Baramulla and received the current status. He was apprised that the work has been started physically recently and a substantial spade work has been completed. He directed the executing agency to speed up the pace and accomplish the project as per the target strictly as per the DPR and specifications.On way back, the Minister also inspected the newly constructed Sub-District Hospital/Accidental Hospital building at Pattan. He was informed that the building has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 13.17 crore over 45 kanal of land and is ready for commissioning after final touches soon.
