Commissioner Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi convened a meeting to review the functioning of the Department here today. Labour Commissioner, Regional Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation, Government of India,  All Deputy Labour Commissioners, Assistant Labour Commissioners, Additional Provident Fund Commissioner and Factory Inspectors of Kashmir Division were present in the meeting.During the review meeting, Commissioner Secretary was briefed about the activities of the Department and apprised about the implementation of various Labour laws in the State.It was given out that in order  to enforce and ensure  safety of working class, Department has been engaged with implementation of 32 enactments, the purpose of which is to be safeguard the interests of labourers and working class and also to ensure payment of wages, to provide medical facilities and guarantee safety measures at the working places. Similarly,  Employees State Insurance  Corporation is providing all medical facilities to the registered workers inside and outside the State.Giving the details of financial assistance to construction workers, the meeting was informed that  J&K Buildings and Other Construction Workers Board has disbursed an amount of Rs. 263 crores as financial assistance to 10,92,619 beneficiaries. 

The Commissioner Secretary stressed upon the officers to undertake immediate measure to educate the working class  about various schemes, which are being implemented for their welfare.Stressing on the need to create awareness among labourers about their rights, Rizvi said Department is committed to create an enlightened and disciplined work force and bringing about desirable behavioural changes in workforce in the organized and unorganized  sectors.He further stressed that every effort has to be made that labourers/worker’s registration under different schemes is hassle free, and in this regard, directed officers to establish worker friendly mechanism in their offices which will eliminate delay and undue problems being faced by the beneficiaries.  Rizvi asked Labour Commissioner and other officers to ensure that employers take all safety measures for workers/labourers at the working places.Rizvi called upon officials to facilitate early disposal of long-pending cases so as to serve the cause of justice and bring relief to those affected by the delay in disposal of such cases. The Assistant Labour Commissioners were directed to attend the judicial works on daily basis and ensure that backlog of the cases is cleared at an earliest, especially wage compensation cases.
