A meeting of the Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mohammad Ashraf Mir to review the overall functioning of the Rural Development Department (RDD).Legislators, Mubarak Gul, Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar, Vikar Rasool Wani, Abdul Majid Padder, Altaf Ahmed Wani, R S Pathania, Yawar Ahmed Mir and Javed Ahmed Mirchal attended the meeting.The Committee discussed issues pertaining to various schemes launched by the department for benefits of the people including PMAY, MGNREGA, Swachh Bharat Mission, IWMP, UMEED, Himayat, CD and Panchayats and 14th Finance Commission Awards etc.The Committee directed the concerned authorities to provide 100 days employment to the job card holders and to review the transfer policy of the department besides directing for clearing all pending cases of financial assistance for construction of toilets and houses.The Committee directed concerned authorities to take necessary steps to fill up all vacant posts of Block Development Officers so that progress of development works in the area is not hampered. It was also directed to clear all pending liabilities under various schemes.

The Committee also directed for launching awareness programmes at grass root level to create awareness among people about various welfare schemes being carried out by the department for the people, especially those living in rural areas.Further, the Committee directed all concerned departments to furnish reply to the Chairman and members of the Committee well in time regarding the agenda points to be discussed in the meeting.Commissioner Secretary, RDD Nirmal Sharma briefed the Committee about functioning of the department besides action taken on different centrally and state sponsored schemes being carried out for the poor and needy people of the state.Directions were also passed to the higher authority of RDD to ensure presence of all DPOs and BDOs in the next meeting of the Committee.Among others, Secretary, Legislative Assembly, M R Singh, Director, RDD Kashmir, Gazanfar Ali, Director RDD Jammu, R K Bhat, Director Rural Sanitation, M M Rehman, MD, JKSRLM Bakshi Javid, all ADCs besides other senior officers of RDD and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
