The National BJP President, Amit Shah, has said that the BJP Government, led by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is committed to the welfare of people belonging to backward classes and held out the assurance that the bill giving constitutional recognition to the OBC Commission would be got passed in both Houses of Parliament at any cost. Addressing a press conference on the second day of his three-day visit here today, Mr Shah said since 1955, people belonging to OBCs had been demanding constitution recognition to the OBC Commission but due to the anti-OBC mindset of the Congress Party, the Bill could not be got passed in the Rajya Sabha. He said that none of the previous governments at the Centre ever paid any heed towards this demand of the OBCs, but when the BJP Government took steps in this direction, the Congress Party created hurdles which gave out their negative mindset.

The bill to give constitutional recognition to OBC Commission had been passed by the Lok Sabha but the Congress Party forced certain amendments in the Bill as a result of which it could not be passed in the upper House. If incorporated, these amendments would defeat the very purpose of the bill, he added. Shah said the Congress was adamant on the amendments in the Bill as it did not want the Bill to be passed. Welfare of the people could not be ensured merely by making tall claims.  The Congress should work for the interests of the poor by rising above the party politics. he Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, is committed to get the Bill passed in both Houses of Parliament at any cost and no one would be allowed to stand in the way. The party which never worked for the welfare of people is today working to create hurdles before the present Central Government which is working for the welfare of all sections of the society, he added.
