Stepping up its demand for a complete loan waiver for famers of the state, the Punjab BJP Kisan Morcha has decided to Gherao the CM’s residence on August 4. Stating this here today, state BJP vice-president Harjit Singh Grewal and state party secretary Vineet Joshi said that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has failed to keep his pre-poll promise of full loan waiver of the farmers. The BJP leaders said that the farmers of the state feel distraught and betrayed and this is the sole reason why 80 farmers have committed suicide in the state despite the CM announcing a partial loan waiver. It is to be noted that 160 farmers have ended their lives since Captain Amarinder Singh assumed office on March 16 this year.
In a joint statement, Grewal and Joshi said, “While the Chief Minister tricked the famers by not keeping his promise of full loan waiver during the special Budget session of the state assembly, the Co-operative societies, small banks have come on the verge of being shut down as they haven’t received back the loan amounts. Meanwhile, the weather has played havoc with farmers with thousands of acres of farmland submerged under water”.Joshi said that farmers from all across the state would gather at the party headquarters on August 4 and thereon march towards the CM’s residence under the leadership of BJP Kisan Morcha president Sukhpal Singh Nannu.
