Abu Dujana killing aftermath:Protests and clashes erupted in parts of Kashmir

In wake of killing of top militant commander Abu Dujana, authorities as a precautionary measure ordered closure of all the schools and colleges across Kashmir Valley on Tuesday.“As a precautionary measure all the colleges and schools of Kashmir valley are hereby closed for today on 01-08-2017,” reads the order issued by Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmed Khan.Authorities also suspended internet service across Kashmir Valley to maintain law and order. Train service also remained suspended.LeT commander Abu Dujana along with his associate was killed in Hakripora Kakapora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.Reports said that students from Government College for Women pelted stones on the government forces near Regal Chowk while the clashes between students and police prompted shopkeepers to lower their shutters. Eyewitnesses told news agency CNS that students’ pelted stones on police after an ambulance carrying injured from Pulwama was on way towards the hospital. The protesting students also raised pro-freedom slogans.

Police arrested couple of students when they were running towards their destination after protests erupted near Regal Chowk.At least three students were injured when Police fired tear-smoke shells to disperse protesters outside AS College Srinagar. Students were protesting the killing of LeT commander Abu Dujana.   Students at Kashmir also held a protest and chanted slogans in favour of Abu Dujana. A large number of students marched through lanes and bye-Lanes of Varsity and raised pro-freedom slogans. The protest march culminated peacefully.Students at Central Kashmir’s Budgam district clashed with government forces after they hit to roads and pelted stones on the police. Witnesses said that students from both Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools entered into clashes with police while in retaliation fired tear-smoke shells to dissipate them.Reports from Palhalan area of Pattan Baramulla in North Kashmir said that protesters pelted stones on the moving vehicles on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road. The protesters amid pro-freedom slogans tried to disrupt vehicular movement; however, police swung into action and fired tear-smoke shells to disperse them.

At SSM Engineering College located in Parihaspora Pattan, students boycotted the classes and offered funeral prayers in absentia for Abu Dujan and Arif Lelhari. College authorities told CNS that sensing trouble they ordered the closure of the Institution.Students clashes with government forces in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.All shops were closed in the town as clashes erupted. Reports said that students hit to roads and resorted to stone-pelting amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.Reports from Sumbal area of District Bandipora said that Army personnel from Duck Farm camp dragged students out from passenger bus and thrashed them. An official said that students earlier hurled stones on the army camp as a result army chased them away. The video showing army men dragging students out from passenger bus went viral inviting condemnation from netizens.Protests were also staged at Government Degree College Kulgam on Tuesday against the killing of top LeT commander Abu Dujana in an encounter with government forces.Reports said that hundreds of students boycotted their classes and staged massive protests.They were shouting slogans in favour of Abu Dujana.Meanwhile, According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir all the colleges and schools of Kashmir valley shall remain closed on August, 02 2017 as a precautionary measure.
