US President Donald Trump said that he discussed creating an "impenetrable cybersecurity unit" with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their meeting on the sidelines of G20 summit in Hamburg.The Twitter statement is surprising, after the US president said he "strongly pressed" Putin about Russian interference in the 2016 election, with US intelligence agencies stating clearly that the Kremlin staged cyberattacks on the US voting system, Efe news reported on Sunday.The cybersecurity unit is even more surprising after the US press has reported Russian attempts to infiltrate not only the US election system but also to hack into nuclear power plants and other key infrastructure.The unit, Trump tweeted, will serve to help prevent "election hacking and many other negative things".
Trump went on to say that "Questions were asked about why the CIA & FBI had to ask the (Democratic National Committee) 13 times for their SERVER, and were rejected, still don't ... have it," continuing to attempt to fuel doubts about whether the Democrats were responsible for allowing the Russian cyber attacks and leaks of sensitive DNC emails.Trump went on to ask, in yet another tweet: "Why did Obama do NOTHING when he had info before election?" but also said that it was time to turn the page on this matter and "move forward in working constructively with Russia," now that he has transmitted US concerns to Putin about the Kremlin's election meddling.Putin said on Saturday that Trump had accepted his denial that Russia was responsible for interfering in the US election.
