In order to keep youth away from participating in any program on the first death anniversary of slain HM commander Burhan Wani, authorities on Thursday seized hundreds of motorcycles in Srinagar and issued strict orders not to release them before 16th of this month. If sources are to be believed, hundreds of motorcycles were seized by police in many areas of the Srinagar city, the move was aimed at keeping city youth away of participating in any program on the first death anniversary of Burhan Wani being observed on 8th of July.

Sources said in view of separatists call for shutdown on July 8, there are reports that youth from Srinagar and others parts of the valley may reach Tral the home town of slain HM Commander.“This is a precautionary measure being taken by the authorities so that youth refrain from taking part in subversive activities.

Besides there are strict orders not to release seized motorcycles before July 16,” sources added. They said that since the authorities do not want situation to go out of control, every measure is being taken to maintain law and order.“Separatist groups have already issued a week long calendar on Burhan Wani’s anniversary, we have reports that disruptive elements may try to disturb situation by provoking youth to indulge in stone pelting and other violent activities,” sources said.Meanwhile Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Muneer Ahmad Khan while refuting the reports of internet being suspended for indefinite period said “we have no plans to impose blanket ban on internet. Every step will be taken as per the situation and requirement”However confusion prevails after a formal order issued by Kashmir police chief directing concerned to ensure ban on internet services in Kashmir valley from midnight.“In view of the apprehensions of misuse of internet services by anti national elements, which is likely to cause deterioration in law and order situation, you are directed to block all social media sites on lease line (if it is not possible, shutdown the services) in Kashmir valley from 06.07.2017 at 2200 hours till further order,’’ reads the order issued by IGP Kashmir.
