Two of the three militants killed in Kakapora encounter in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district had recently joined militant ranks while one of them was a two years old militant who had joined Lashkar-e-Toiba shortly after Udhampur attack in August 2015 that resulted in the death of two Indian Border Security Force personnel. A militant was killed while another was captured after the attack. The security agency had claimed that attacked was carried out by militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba and shortly after the attack, security agencies started looking for Kakapora youth Majid Mir- one of the militants who died in Kakapora encounter.Majid Mir son of Abdul Hamid, a resident of Kakapora was a B-Tech student at Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora. National Investigation Agency declared him a fugitive after his alleged role in Udhampur attack was established by the agency. Government Forces raided his house but failed to nab him. Majid joined militant ranks in August 2015 and since then he was an active LeT commander responsible for multiple attacks on government forces.Majid according to his neighbours had a rich back ground. “He belonged to a well-to-do family. His father is a known and respected business man in the area.”

The other two militants were only few months old.  Shakir Ahmed son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Kakapora fled from his home after police started looking for him in a killing case related to a PDP District President Pulwama Abdul Gani Dar.Dar was gunned down in April this year by unidentified militants near Pinglina-Pohu when he was on way to Srinagar. Police made few arrests including a lawyer while raided the house of Shakir repeatedly but could not found him. To evade the arrest, Shakir joined militant ranks. A police official told CNS that Shakir had given lift to the militants responsible for the killing of Dar in his vehicle. He was a 1st year BSc student at Degree College Pulwama carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh,” said his neighbor. The third militant Shabir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Gamhanjipora Padgampora area of Pulwama district was active from past five months.
