The Rehber-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers on Wednesday staged protest against the government for ‘failing to address the woes of teachers’.

Hundreds of ReT teachers assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans like ‘we want justice’.According to KNS correspondent, the ReT teachers who were holding the banners were demanding government to release their salaries, which are pending since last six months.Talking to media persons, Farooq Ahmad Tantary, the chairperson of ReT said that the government has failed to release the salaries of ReT’s from past six months, which has resulted in the sufferings to the people of Kashmir.“As the EID is approaching, the government has left the families of ReT’s at the verge of starvation while the parents are also not able to pay fees of their wards,” he said.Saying that the government fails to fulfil the promises done with ReT’s, he said, “The promises made by the Education Minister, Altaf Bukhari to streamline the salaries of ReT’s have fallen flat on the ground.”He also demanded the absorption of Sarwa Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in the state plan so they too receive their due at the end of the every month from the state budget. “We never want to leave our institutions rather we work in the difficult situations in the most inaccessible areas of the state. But the financial constraints have forced us to hit the streets and voice for our genuine rights,” he said. The ReT’s also threatened to launch agitation in case the government failed to release their salaries.Meanwhile, the protesters later dispersed peacefully.
