Div Com for launching drive against artificial ripening of fruits

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari today directed the Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organisation (D&FCO), J&K to conduct inspection drives in all districts of Jammu and seize artificially ripened fruits.Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organisation, J&K Lotika Khajuria, Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation RS Jamwal and Assistant Controller Food (MLJ) Sanjeev Kumar were present in the meeting.The Divisional Commissioner was informed that four big consignments of artificially ripened fruits with Calcium Carbide have already been seized and destroyed by D&FCO in the near past. Added to this, two cases have been launched against the defaulters for artificial ripening of fruits in the Court of Law as per the provisions laid down under Food Safety and Standards Act.The Divisional Commissioner further said artificially ripened fruits are not healthy and thus, efforts should be made for saving the consumers from consumption of these harmful fruits.
