Doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Wednesday staged protest against the alleged thrashing of a medico by a cop while he was performing his duty at SMHS hospital on Tuesday.The medicos including PG students and resident doctors wearing white aprons assembled inside the college premises and chanted slogans like ‘we want justice’.The protesting medicos alleged that a cop thrashed a doctor when he was on duty at Medical Intensive Care Unit of the SMHS Hospital. “A third year post graduate student, Owais Wani was Tuesday thrashed by a cop whose mother is currently admitted at SMHS hospital,” Nahida, one among the protesters said, adding that the medico sustained severe injuries after being attacked by the cop.She said that the injured doctor is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.She said that strict action should be taken against the cop involved in thrashing of a medico. “The authorities must deal the erring cop strictly so that such actions would be stopped in future,” she said.Meanwhile, the police officials later reached the GMC ad held meeting with the GMC authorities in this regard.However, after police assurances, the protesting medicos later dispersed peacefully.
