The District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz, today stressed on rationalization of power supply so that it can be ensured that all areas of the district get equal distribution.The DDC was speaking in an introductory meeting he chaired with district and sectoral officers here today at mini secretariat Shopian. He impressed the officers to commit themselves for the fast-track development of the district especially in the sectors of power, health, public health engineering, road connectivity and education.Earlier, the DDC was briefly apprised about the functioning, major achievements and the issues of different departments by the concerned officers. It was given out that as many as 1144 power transformers are available and 16 hours of power supply is being provided in the district. The DDC impressed upon the Executive Engineer PDD to rationalize the distribution of power and ensure that all areas of the district get equal power supply. He added that damaged transformers should be timely repaired in order to maintain a sufficient buffer stock in the district.
While reviewing the schemes of Public Health Engineering Department, the DDC said since the turbidity of water in Shopian is quite high as compare to other districts of Kashmir division, therefore it is of utmost importance to timely clean the filtration plants. He set a deadline of 30 days for PHE department to clean all the filtration plants afresh so that safe drinking water could be provided to the public.He also called for expediting construction of district hospital buildings and asked the DGM JKPCC to complete the remaining work within 5 months so that it can be commissioned to the public soon thereafter.The issue of cost escalation of important projects was discussed in the meeting and it was decided that revised DPRs should be submitted in the office of DDC at an earliest so that it can be projected for World Bank funding. The DDC assured that sufficient funds would be made available and no project would be allowed to stalled due to dearth of funds.
