Army pays tributes to slain soldiers

Army Sunday said that it paid befitting tributes to two of its soldiers who were killed by militants in an attack on army convoy in Qazigund in Kulgam district.PRO Army, Rajesh Kalai in a statement to KNS said that in a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, Srinagar, many senior officials from other Security Forces and civil administration including DGP J&K joined Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks in paying homage to the slain soldiers on behalf of a proud nation.“Martyr Naik Dipak Kumar Maity, 43 years of age had joined Army in 1997 and hailed from Midnapur in West Bengal. He is survived by his wife Smt Rikta and a 13 years old daughter. Coming from Thiruvannamalai in Tamilnadu, the young martyr Gunner (Operator) Manivannan G was only 25 years old and had donned the uniform in 2013. He is survived by his parents, mother Smt G Chinnaponnu and father Sri Gopal G,” Kalia said.He said the mortal remains of the soldiers will be flown to their native places where they will be laid to rest with full military honours. “In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing.” (KNS)
