Even after being awarded Chief of Army Staff  (COAS) Commendation Card by Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat Jammu Kashmir Police Tuesday said that a formal case registered against Indian Army officer Major Leetul Gogoi will not be quashed.Police in Jammu and Kashmir have filed an FIR against Gogoi for human rights violation.Major Gogoi has been in news ever since he placed a Kashmiri youth, later identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar, on the bonnet of his jeep during recent protests in Kashmir on April 9. The video of the incident sparked a major debate, even some of the Indian intellectuals justified his action while majority of the Civil Society members and Human Rights Organization demanded tough action against the said Army officer.Talking to reporters here in Valley, newly appointed Inspector General Police Kashmir Zone, Mr Munir Ahmed Khan ruled out possibility of quashing FIR against the accused Army officer.Khan said that investigation will carry one and the FIR has not been quashed.

Meanwhile, netizens on social media in Kashmir have been expressing anger over the Army decision to honour the accused officer, though majority of the Indian have been justifying his action.IGP Munir Ahmed Khan who visited several parts of North Kashmir disclosed that only 90 militants are active in northern parts of Kashmir and they will be tackled. He said the parents will have to come forward in managing the intermittent student tensions that spills over to the street. In Sopore, Khan told a group of residents, invited for the interaction, that police alone many not be able to manage the situation, especially the intermittent students protests. He asked the people that parenting must play its role. “We cannot afford the young generation losing on education.” Khan was quoted saying. “Parents must counsel the boys and girls.” He said police have a very limited role when compared to the parents.  (CNS)
