"The Punjab Government would brook no hindrance in providing the citizen centric services to the people of the state as it is a Government of the people, for the people and by the people and ensuring their well being is an article of faith with the Government. Under the guidance of Chief Minister, Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh Punjab would be amongst the frontline states to provide e-Governance solutions to its people."Making this explicit while chairing a meeting of the representatives of top notch companies here today, the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the main aim of this marathon exercise is to work out modalities and formulate a comprehensive strategy for implementing e-Governance concept in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) which would be undertaken in a phased manner. He also instructed the departmental officers to have a relook at the data available with it and ensure that the information contained in the Request for Proposal  (RFP) is correct and up-to-date.

Divulging more, the minister said that the project has been bifurcated into various phases and to make sure that it runs smoothly, the first phase has been further divided into 4 sub phases. As part of 1st sub phase various services e.g. Birth/Death certificates, Complaints/Grievances, Property Tax, Trade Permits and Licenses and Water Supply would be provided to the people. He also exhuded the confidence that the success of the 1st sub phase would act as a catalyst for the success of the other phases.Disclosing more, he said that the RFP would be divided into 2 components namely hardware and software. He also elaborated that performance would be the sole criteria and the project would be awarded to a company only as per the merit and quality. He also rued the fact that had the previous dispensation paid attention to this aspect, the RFP would not have failed 4 times. The Minister said that the crux of the matter is that the people of Punjab should get services in a hassle free manner.Among others present on the occasion included Adviser to the Local Government department Dr. Amar Singh and Secretary, Local Government Mr. J.M.
