Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today urged people to join hands and take a pledge for keeping the city clean and green.The Speaker said this while inaugurating lanes and drains at Shiv Shakti Mohalla in Narwal Bala. The lanes and drains have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.60 lakh under Constituency Development Fund by Rural Development Department.He further said that there is an immediate need for every citizen of the country to realize his responsibility and come forward to contribute in the success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.He asked people  to refrain from throwing garbage on streets, public places and open spaces, besides urging them to plant trees so that the coming generations inherit a healthy environment.“The message of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ should reach every household,” he said, adding that the educated class of the society should assist the government in creating awareness among the masses about benefits of following healthy sanitation practices.Meanwhile, the locals apprised the Speaker about various problems being faced by them related to water supply, road connectivity, ration distribution, healthcare, education and old age pension.The Speaker informed them that the government is planning to construct a tube well at Panchayat Ghar, Narwal which will augment the supply of drinking water in the area. Earlier in the day, the Speaker also laid the foundation stone for construction of Community Hall at Ward No. 52 in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
