After two weeks, mobile internet services restored in Kashmir

Services were suspended in view of student protests

After remaining suspended for two weeks, the mobile internet services were Saturday restored in the Valley.The authorities had suspended the mobile internet services following the widespread protests by the students against the alleged thrashing of students in Government Degree College Pulwama on Apr 15.The Airtel cellular company had restored the mobile internet services two days back while the other cellular companies restored the services today.

Notably, the authorities have banned the 22 social networking sites including, Facebook, Whats App, Twitter and others in the Valley for the period of one month.The decision to ban the social networking sites was taken after the authorities observed that these sites were being misused by some elements to disturb peace in the Valley.Meanwhile, the restoration of the mobile internet services has brought relief to the people of Kashmir particularly to the Valley traders and students.The Valley traders had urged the authorities to restore the services, saying that it has affected their businesses.
