3 mega AMRUT projects take off in Srinagar city

The much awaited mega drainage scheme under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) took off here today with the launching of three major schemes for Srinagar city.The projects include drainage scheme for Indra Nagar area, Lal Chowk drainage scheme and Shalteng drainage scheme at a cost of Rs.30 crore by city Drainage circle of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.The other schemes envisaged to be started under this project are Gangbugh, Jeelanabad Peer bagh, Palpora and Malla Bagh.  The execution of these schemes will largely improve drainage system in Srinagar city with the addition of thirty to forty percent additional drainage network across various areas.Meanwhile the world bank funding of  Rs 300 crore for Srinagar city is at its final stage for implementation which include up gradation of existing pump stations of the city with High capacity pumps along with diesel run generators(DG sets) which shall be installed above Highest Flood Level(HFL) in order to strengthen the pumping capacity as well as arrangement for electricity break down during calamities.The other drainage requirements of the city are being addressed under Japan International Cooperation agency (JICA) and the aim and objective of the Government is to achieve 100% drainage network in the coming two years time.The SMC has also started Desiliting of the choked drains in the city. The operation to be carried out at a large scale aims at to rid the choked drains of the silt and other solid waste for free flow of water.
