In a rare gesture of solidarity, the Women Commissions of eight states have expressed willingness to impress upon Union Government to frame new legislation to save daughters from the sham marriages solemnized with by fraud NRI bridegrooms.The decision to this effect by Women Commission of eight states has been taken in a National Seminar organized jointly by Punjab Women Commission and National Women Commission at MAGSIPAP, sector-26, Chandigarh. These women commission in unison expressed dire need of a new legislation in order to save the daughters from the clutches of fraud NRI bridegrooms and to get them rid of the mental trauma of these sham marriages. The prominent speakers, who spoke at the seminar included, Ms. Rekha Sharma, Member, National Commission for Women, the Chief Guest at the seminar, Dr. Tripurana Venkataratnam, Chairperson, Women Commission, Telangana, Ms. Leela Ben Ankoliya, Chairperson, Women Commission Gujarat, Dr. Lopamudra Baxipatra, Chairperson, Women Commission, Odisha, Ms. Jenab Chandel, Chairperson, Women Commission, Himachal Pradesh, Ms. Kamlesh Panchal, Chairperson, Women Commission, Haryana, Ms. Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Ms. Sarojini Kaintura, Chairperson, Uttrakhand State Commission for Women, Ut, Ms. Vinay Patel, Member Secretary, Women Commission Gujarat and Ms. Manjushah, Member Secretary, Maharashtra State Commission for Women.

Addressing the seminar, Mrs. Rekha Sharma, Member, National Women Commission stressed upon to enable the daughters to be self-sufficient and self-reliant in all respect especially economically, so that they may not be fall trapped in the hands of these deceitful NRI bridegrooms. She said that the present legislation is too mild, which provide an easy escape route to these fraudulent NRI bridegrooms to save their skins from the iron hand of the law.Welcoming the guest at the seminar, Mrs. Paramjeet Kaur Landran, Chairperson, Punjab Women Commission said that it is a bitter truth of the Punjab Society that the parents during the marriage of their daughters spend more than their financial capacity in order to secure a better future of their beloved daughters but the havens fall upon them, when these fraud NRI bridegrooms ditched and dumped these Punjabi brides. She said that it is the need of the hour to save the Indian daughters from the unbearable atrocities in the hand of these sham NRI bridegrooms.Besides the other resource persons, the prominent speakers, who delivered their lectures included, senior journalist Mr. Hamir Singh, Advocate Daljeet Kaur, Ms. Satvir Kaur Manhera, Vice Chairperson, Punjab State Women Commission, Mrs. Veerpal Kaur Tarmala, Mrs. Kiranpreet Kaur Dhami. Mrs. Darshan Kaur and Mrs. Poonam Arora, Members, Punjab State Women Commission.
