The Punjab government has decided to give education allowance to the children of the labourers registered under Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The education allowance (books and stationery) would be to the tune of Rs.4, 000 to 8,000.The decision in this effect was taken in a high level meeting of Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, presided over by Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat, Labour Minister, Punjab. It was also decided that besides education allowance, children of registered labourers’ studying in class 1st to class 12th, would also be given uniform allowance from Rs.8,00 to Rs.1,000.Disclosing this, Mr. Bhagat said that the Punjab Government has also decided to distribute bicycles to such beneficiary students, studying in class 9th to class 12th.Mr. Bhagat said thar Punjab government has already started a massive exercise to register labourers engaged in constuction activity and make their database so that series of welfare measurers could be imlimented in an organised manner.
