Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Abdul Gani Kohli today inaugurated 3-day National Conference on “Technological Interventions for Sustainable Livestock Production” (TISLP) organized by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Jammu (SKUAST-J) in association with the Society for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension (SVAHE) at SKUAST Campus, R S Pura.Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu Prof Pradeep K Sharma and Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir Prof Nazir Ahmad were guest of honor on the occasion.Commissioner/Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry, R K Bhagat, Secretary SKUAST, Jammu, Dr Verma, Director Fisheries, Director Planning, Director Animal Husbandry, Jammu, Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu, Veterinarians and Faculty Members were present. Scientists, Research Scholars and Veterinarians from all over India are also participating in the conference.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the aim and objectives of the conference is to provide a platform for exchange of new information on Animal Science and technology, with focus on successful strategies for sustainable promotion of livestock considering the environment and welfare of livestock and human beings.Kohli said the conference will provide a platform for sharing knowledge and ideas among the participants and evolve a mechanism to deal with the challenges faced by the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry sciences. He said the conference will be a torchbearer for the farmers who are interested in integrated farming and want to maximize their gains given the constraints of land and technology.Emphasizing the need for providing policy initiatives for the development of livestock sector in changing environmental conditions, the Minister stressed upon the Scientists and Researchers to focus on the conservation of feed resources in the state.
The Minister appreciated the role of SKUAST-J and SVAHE for providing plate form for conducting such conference with the objective to bring all the professionals working in the field of livestock/fisheries/agricultural research/education and extension sector under an umbrella in an inter-disciplinary approach.Commissioner/Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry R K Bhagat, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Jammu Prof. Pradeep K Sharma and Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir Prof Nazir Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of the conference.The SVAHE also presented life time awards, citation and memento to various Scientists, Researchers and Veterinarians for their remarkable achievements in the field of livestock.Latter, the Minister released the Souvenir and Compendium of 2nd National Conference.
