Rains Aftermath: DC Kulgam reviews situation

Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today chaired a meeting to review the situation arising out of heavy rains and snowfall in the district.The meeting was attended by officers of Revenue, Police, SRDF, R&B, I&FC, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, PDD and other concerned Departments.Owing to the heavy water discharge in various water bodies in the district, the DC directed the officers to remain stationed at their respective stations to monitor the overall situation.It was said that culverts at Adjan, Damhal-Laisoo, and Asthall areas have been washed away, and timely evacuation has been carried out where there was threat of inundation by the district administration. 

Later, the DC visited Asthall and adjoining areas to take stock of the situation.  He was briefed that water level of Vishov nallah was recorded as 7.74 meters at 10:00 a.m. which is 0.74 meters above the danger level. He directed the officers to gear up their men and machinery to meet any eventuality. He said that the control rooms have been activated and people have been informed to contact these control rooms in case of any exigency.He also appealed people of low lying areas not to venture out of their homes, while as inhabitants of Asthall, Adpora and Gund-Kelam were advised to move to safer places in light of heavy downpour.The DC Kulgam stressed on effective coordination among the concerned Departments for prompt action to prevent any loss of life and property.
