Second phase of Pulse Polio immunization held across Kashmir

The second phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme was held across the valley today in which above 9.7 lakh children under the age of 5 years were administered anti-polio vaccine to protect them against the crippling disease.Over one million children are target of the anti-polio drive in Kashmir Division for which 5770 booths have been set up. As many as, 1150 supervisors and 23,000 health workers including volunteers have been deployed to carry out the campaign successfully across the Valley.At Srinagar, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, kick-started anti-polio campaign by administering vaccines to children at JLNM hospital here.More than 1,83,861 children would be covered under the programme in the district for which 2520 employees and volunteers have been deputed in 630 pulse-polio booths.To ensure 100 percent target achievement, it was said that polio booths have been set up in every part of the summer capital. At Shopian, the IIPI phase-II campaign commenced today with District Development Commissioner Manzoor Ahmad Qadri administering oral vaccines to children at district hospital. It was said that 43370 children in the age group of 0-5 years are the target of the immunization drive for which 215 pulse polio centres have been established and 900 personnel of the Health Department along with supervisors have been deployed for carrying out the drive successfully.At Ganderbal, District Development Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Ganai, accompanied by ADC Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari kick-started the programme by administering pulse polio drops to newborns at District Hospital Ganderbal.   

Approximately 45504 children were covered under theprogramme and 227 vaccination booths have been set up for the purpose, besides 920 employees and 48 supervisors were deputed for the immunization programme in the district.At Budgam, the drive was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmad  at Aga Syed Yousf Memorial district hospital. About 1,03,359 children are target of the anti-polio drive in the district for which 2,252 workers and volunteers have been deployed at612 booths including nine transit teams as well.At Anantnag, District Development Commissioner, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah,launched the drive with an aim to eradicate the disease from the district by administering drops to children at Maternity and Child Care hospital Anantnag in which 1,35,734 would be immunized. 

For successful conduct of the drive, 2,663 employees including health workers, ASHA workers, Anganwari workers and teachers have been deployed at 634booths.At Baramulla, the anti-polio drive was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Dr. Nassir Ahmad Naqash, who gave oral vaccines to a newborn at district hospital. A total of 154879 children are to be immunized during the second phase of the IPPI in the district, for which 776 vaccination booths have been established. As many as 3313 workers including Anganwari, ASHA and volunteers were deployed by the district administration for effective campaign.At Kupwara, District Development Commissioner G. M. Dar kicked-off the pulse polio campaign at sub-district hospital where he administered vaccines to newborns. It was said that 1,36,262 children would be covered under the programme for which 720 polio booths and 3083 employees and volunteers along with supervisory staff have been engaged for successful conduct of the drive.At Bandipora, the second round of the anti-polio campaign was launched by kickboxing champion Tajamul Islam in presence of CMO and other officials by administering vaccines to children at district hospital. A total of 62106 children under the age of 5 years are target of the drive. It was said that 325 vaccination booths and 5 transit points have been established in the district for which 1300 workers from Health, ICDS, Education Department and volunteers along with supervisors have been deployed in the district.
