The families of two PDD labours who were electrocuted on Mar 05, Thursday staged protest against the government for ‘failing to provide any compensation to them.’Notably, on Mar 05, one labour was electrocuted to death while another was critically injured, after they were hit by electric shock while repairing the wire near Budshah Bridge at Lal Chowk Srinagar.The families two PDD labours assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans like ‘we want justice’ and were demanding immediate comes nation from the government.The protesters also took to streets and blocked the main road for several minutes resulted in the traffic chaos in the area.Meanwhile, the families told KNS that the government has failed to provide any compensation to them. “The officials of the PDD department visited our residence while our beloved ones were electrocuted. Following which no one from the administration visited us,” they said, adding that the government has left them on god’s mercy.“One among the family lost its bread earner while the bread earner of another family is handicapped now and can’t earn the livelihood for his family. It stands the responsibility of the government to provide any job compensation to the families so that the families could feel a sigh of relief,” they said.They said that they have not received a single penny after the incident took place. “We have been assured of all possible help but unfortunately the government is pushing the two families towards starvation,” they added.They later sought Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti’s intervention in it and urged her to fulfill their demands at earliest.
