Several teachers working under Saakashar Bharat Mission (SBM) were injured after police charged with canes when they were proceedings towards Gupkar based Chief Minister’s residence. Police stopped them near Polo View and used mild force to disperse them.Reports said that hundreds of SBM teachers protested against authorities for a recent order to wind up SBM across the state barring Samba and Jammu districts. “We have been working round the clock against peanuts (Rs 2000 per month). We are wageless for past three years as authorities continue to delay release of our salaries. To make the matters worse,  the authorities have issued order to wind up the SBM,”  the protesters told CNS adding that many teachers have already crossed the age limit for government jobs and are facing starvation like conditions.Strongly condemning the cane charging on Panchayat Coordinators affiliated with Education Department, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee(JKPCC) President G.A. Mir lashed out at State Govt, Particularly, Education Department for attempting to through these coordinators out from the department, as the Government is reportedly conspiring to close down the scheme (PRERAKS) on political lines.

Blaming the Government for conspiring and denying the right to Panchaya Coordinators they deserve, Mir said that these guys who are rendering their best services under Saakshar Bharat Mission popularly known as “PRERAKS” a centrally sponsored Scheme launched by UPA regime, are getting only 2000 Rupees PM since five years, but this is unfortunate, that they are being denied their right of permanent absorption, which is not only unfortunate, but a matter of serious concern. He said UPA Government under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh launched this scheme aiming to enhance female literacy and adult literacy in 2012, but this is ironical, the ruling dispensation under a well-planned conspiracy are punishing these poor employees aiming to close down the scheme merely on political lines, which is unacceptable. Mir urged upon the Government to devise a job policy for these Panchayat Coordinators and ensue that the Scheme is strengthened and implement in the entire state, as that will be the real benefit to poor and down trodden sections of the State.
