National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is going to launch ‘Save Water’ campaign in Jammu and Kashmir from next month.Being part of nationwide movement, during the campaign NABARD would hold awareness campaigns to educate the people about rain water harvesting, conservation of traditional resources and efficient water use in the State. The campaign would be launched from Kalakote, Rajouri from April, 6, 2017.The announcement in this regard was made by the functionaries of J&K Regional Office NABARD, Jammu, during a programme held to celebrate World Water Day here today.Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli was the chief guest on the occasion.During the programme a video conference involving NABARD functionaries of various states was also held. The representatives presented their views about the ways and means for saving water and its judicious use.
The experts also defined modern cultivation technologies and their use for increasing production of different crops.The Minister while interacting with the NABARD functionaries stressed for launching mass awareness campaigns across the State to educate the people especially living in hilly areas about preservation and harvesting of rain water and its use to meet daily needs as well as irrigation requirements.The Minister asked the functionaries to implement various schemes launched by the government through NABARD for the welfare of the people. He said the schemes meant for preservation of rain water should be strictly implemented at grassroots level for benefit of general masses.Vice Chancellor SKAUST Jammu P K Sharma, Chief General Manager NABARD, Vijay Kumar, General Manager NABARD, B R Patnaik besides senior officers of various Banks and allied departments attended the function.The speakers emphasized on the judicious use of water and suggested various practices for water conservation and management.
