A local militant was killed and an army major was injured in a brief shootout near police station in Bandipora Town of northern Kashmir, officials said Thursday.A police officer told GNS that a joint team of army and SOG had laid a naka following specific inputs about the movement of militants. “During the checking at the naka point, a militant who was boarding a vehicle opened fire in which an army major of 14 RR sustained injuries.“In the retaliatory action, the militant was gunned down,” he said. The officer said that the slain militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Seergojri of Malangam village Bandipora and he was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. One pistol and a grenade were recovered from his possession. (GNS)
