A meeting of Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-II) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of Ramesh Arora to review the overall functioning of the Social Welfare Department (SWD).Legislators, Showkat Hussain Ganaie and Firdous Ahmad Tak were present in the meeting and shared their views with the officers of Social Welfare Department for further improving its department.Secretary, Social Welfare, Sajad Ahmad Khan briefed the Committee about the activities of the department and number of fresh cases regarding pension, relief and other schemes operated by the Social Welfare Department besides how many cases are pending in the department.It also briefed the Committee about details of budget allocation with expenditure for the last four years. It also briefed about what steps have been taken to bring awareness among the masses about the schemes launched by the Social Welfare Department. It also briefed about the details of the state and centrally sponsored schemes being executed by the Department.
The Committee directed the concerned authorities to conduct a fresh survey of girl child falling under Ladli Beti scheme to cover all the beneficiaries. The Committee informed that the 9 districts have been covered under Ladli Beti Scheme so far.The Committee also informed that the Social Welfare Department has distributed 467 scooties among the meritorious students in the state as on date.The Committee informed about the loan facilities provided to the women of the state by Women Development Corporation which ranges between Rs 2 to 5 lakh.The Committee stressed for disabled certificates for disabled persons should issue by the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Officer and Block Medical Officer, so that the disabled persons could get certificate easily.Among others, Special Secretary, SWD, Mir Tariq Ahmad, Managing Director, JKWDC, Dr Naheed Pir, Managing Director, SC/ST/BC development Corporation, R K Pandita, Director, Finance, SWD, Abdul Majid Butt, Director Social Welfare, Jammu Vir Ji Hangloo, Social Welfare Kashmir, Hashmat Ali, all District Social Welfare Officer of Jammu Division besides other senior officers and officials of Social Welfare Department and Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
