Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq today interacted with the Law Students of Jammu University and shared with them his experiences.The interaction was organized by the Department of Lifelong Learning and the Law School of Jammu University in collaboration with Department of Students’ Welfare.Abdul Haq, who has been a practicing lawyer in various courts of the country, stressed on the students to be good learners and readers to be a successful lawyers. He said the judgments and legislations keep changing everyday and a lawyer has to keep himself updated about the same for being a successful lawyer.He said the lawyer has to be a student always and has to continue to update his knowledge and hence he/she needs to be a patient learner and a good reader as well.Minister congratulated the students for choosing law as their profession and said they have vast opportunities in the field in public and private sector. He said there are various posts in the Government sector where holding of Law Degree is prerequisite. He said there are various posts in the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at Gazetted level including Public Law Officers, Assistant Legal Remembrancers, District Litigation Officers which are being filled up from the law graduates through various recruiting agencies. He said besides every government department has a legal section where law graduates are employed and besides that every department has a standing counsel where practicing lawyers are hired to represent government departments in various courts. While responding to questions by the students, Minister said the government is planning to setup Panchayat Adalats which will ultimately help in reducing the pendency of cases in courts. He said the cases start from lower courts and reach to the higher courts and the government wants to get such cases cleared at grass root level.He said government will take all other steps to reduce pendency of cases by establishing more courts and filling vacancies of judges in various courts including that of Jk High Court.Vice Chancellor Jammu University RD Sharma earlier welcomed the minister to the university and hoped for more such interactions with the students in future. Others who were present on the occasion include, Director Law School Dr Sanjay Gupta, Dean Students Welfare, Satnaam Kour, Director Lifelong Learning Dr Kavita Suri besides students and the staff of the Law School.
